A rich history dating back nearly 400 years underpins all that we hold dear at Richard Hale School. Founded in 1617 by London merchant Richard Hale, Richard Hale’s School, later Hertford Grammar School, has undergone various transformations over the years. Most recently we were granted specialist status as a science college in 2003, became a foundation school in 2008, and finally an academy in 2013.

We combine traditional values with a modern curriculum and resources which enables our students to learn effectively, and to develop the personal attributes and skills to succeed in a changing world. We are an all-ability school and we take pride in the high standards achieved by our students in academic subjects, in our unique Automotive Workshop, and in extra-curricular activities such as sports, music and drama.

High standards of behaviour and effort are expected from all our students, and we work hard to help them achieve this and reach their full potential. If you decide to send your son (girls are welcomed into the Sixth Form) to our school, he will enjoy an excellent, supportive educational environment during his seven years here. We want our students to leave school as fully rounded individuals with a full range of skills and experiences that will equip them for the challenges ahead.
