Admission Arrangements for Entry to the Sixth Form in September 2017

Two types of course are offered at Richard Hale School: Advanced Level and Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas.  The pathway selected will be determined by the student’s individual strengths and learning preferences.

Sixth Form Curriculum entry requirements

Pathway A

Entry requirements for Advanced Levels:  Average Points Score of 5.2 in all Full Course GCSEs and Level 2 BTECs in addition to English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade 5 or more.

Pathway B

Entry requirements for BTEC Courses:  Average Points Score of 4.5 in all Full Course GCSEs and Level 2 BTECs in addition to English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or more.

APS is calculated as follows:

A*=8, A=7, B=6, C=5, D=4, E=3, F=2, G=1

NB Maths and English numerical grades do not need to be converted in the calculation

ie Grade 5 Maths = 5 in the calculation

Full course details will be available in the Sixth Form subject booklet.

Applications for entry to the Sixth Form

The school will be consistent in the application of the published admission criteria and in the process of considering applications.  This is to ensure fairness to all applicants.  The criteria are based upon our professional judgement of what is required to ensure success on any course followed in our sixth form.

Students from other schools will be admitted provided they meet the entry requirements and there are spaces available. The maximum number of places available in Year 12 is 180; the minimum number of these places open to external applicants is 30.

Over-subscription

In the event that our Sixth Form is over-subscribed by external applicants places will be offered first to children in public care (children looked after) and children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or a special guardianship order) as long as they meet the minimum entry requirement.

After this, preference will be given to applicants with the highest average GCSE points score from their best eight subjects including English and Mathematics.

Appeals

If a student is not offered a place in the Richard Hale Sixth Form his/her parents have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel.

An application form for entry to the Sixth Form must be completed and returned to the School by Friday 25th November 2016.
