Applying to RHS Sixth Form
Due to the current restrictions, we are disappointed that we were unable to hold our hugely popular live event at which we welcome prospective Sixth Form students onto the school site to discover what life is like in Years 12 and 13 at Richard Hale. Please click on the link here to view and hear staff and students talking about ‘Life at Richard Hale Sixth Form’. Details about post-16 courses offered at Richard Hale can be found below.
For any further details, please contact Mrs Chiswick, Sixth Form Welfare and Administration Officer, on the school number, 01992 583441, selecting Option 2 , or by emailing your query to hch@richardhale.co.uk
Application Deadline
We welcome applications from current Richard Hale students and students who are completing their GCSEs elsewhere. Please find links to the application forms below. Please ensure application forms are with us by Monday 7th December 2020.
We will review all the applications we receive by this date; students will then be invited for an interview with a senior member of staff. For current Richard Hale students this will take place in January following mock examinations. For students applying from other schools, once applications have been processed, applicants will be invited to interview during the Spring term. It would be useful if students had access to their mock exam results at this time. Letters offering conditional places will be sent out towards the end of the Spring term. Please note – all notifications will be sent (where possible) to the student’s email address supplied on the application form. Where this is not possible, the parent’s email address will be used.

Entry Requirements for 2021
Our curriculum is broad and our courses are offered at Level 3 only. We offer A Levels, BTEC qualifications and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). However, we do not believe that being at school only involves gaining further qualifications. We believe a Sixth Form experience should include depth as well as breadth. Our Sixth Form students are expected to contribute to the School and wider community (eg by leading younger students in organising House events or by working with our linked primary schools), thus developing their skills by taking a leading role in the life of the School.
We have a two-year structure of study, sometimes known as linear, with examinations taken at the end of the second year. AS examinations will not usually be taken and teaching schedules will not prepare students with AS examinations in mind. We are a full-time only Sixth Form and an applicant is expected to have achieved the requisite GCSEs in order to join the course(s) they wish to study.
The expectation is that students will take three principle subjects for two years (our BTEC subjects are “triple” and are equivalent to three A Levels). Committed and able mathematicians may wish to add Further Mathematics as a fourth qualification.
Entry requirements for A Levels: Average Points Score of 5.0 over your best 8 Full Course GCSEs and English and Mathematics GCSE at Grade 5 or more. You will be required to have gained a Grade 6 in a subject, or a related subject, you wish to take at A Level. Mathematics requires a Grade 7, and Further Mathematics a Grade 8. In our professional opinion students with at least these grades at point of entry to the Sixth Form stand the best chance of success at A Level. Please see individual subject entries for further recommendations as regards entry requirements.
Entry requirements for BTEC Courses: Average Points Score of 4.0 over your best 8 Full Course GCSEs and English and Mathematics at Grade 4 or more. In our professional opinion students with at least these grades at point of entry to the Sixth Form stand the best chance of success at BTEC. Students may also opt to take an A Level subject alongside the BTEC course. Please see individual subject entries for further recommendations as regards entry requirements.
Discussions with Senior Staff are held on GCSE Results Day with students and their parents/carers in order to finalise subject offers.
